The Digital Research Library of Illinois History Journal™ was founded to assist 6th through 12th-grade Illinois public and private school students in finding an Illinois History Day project topic.

No references or citations are listed in the Journals' articles. The main thrust of these projects is for students to learn how to research a topic and cite sources. If these articles had the sources and citations available, it might stymie the student's research into using the convenient references already in the article without searching on their own.

Because of my first-hand experiences in the first Chicago Metro History Fair and my Illinois History Day judging projects in Chicago and Springfield, Illinois, and website projects judged from home, I have discussed this concept with some college history professors from around the country. A number agreed that my history presentations, without citations, would force students to do the work themselves. "Incoming first-year students should have the basic skills to conduct research, and your method for ensuring skills is commendable." Thomas M, History Professor-at-Large.
