The photo is of five Negro boys dressed for Easter church services, perched atop a Pontiac Silver Streak Six that has become an iconic Chicago image.

Spencer Lee Readus Jr. is the only Negro at a Chicago Plastering Institute celebration. He’s in the 2nd row on the left in this 1956 photograph. Photo: WTTW Chicago. |
I have often seen this photo but no one had information on it until now. It is an iconic photo that speaks volumes about Black folks lives. Glad to get info about its origin.
ReplyDeleteI agree it is an iconic photo, I recently came upon an old one my son had posted up in his dorm room its a little raged so I would like to get a new one however, this time I will frame it. This photo speaks volumes and to know at least one of the young men went on to live what would be deemed a respectable life is a pleasure to hear. I hope the others went on to live great lives as well.
ReplyDeleteI have this photo hanging in my living room. I read somewhere that one of the twins became a Doctor.
