The Chicago Club was organized in 1869 as an outgrowth of the old Dearborn Club located on Michigan Avenue near Jackson Street. The first clubhouse of the Chicago Club was situated at the corner of Wabash Avenue and Eldridge Court. It was destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. The present building was erected shortly afterward.

This building remained the clubhouse until 1929, when it collapsed during remodeling.

The current building has an address of 81 E VanBuren. Curious why and when it was changed from the original 404 S Michigan Ave address?
ReplyDeleteThe main entrance was changed to the Van Buren side of the building.
