The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 - "YOU ARE THERE"
[runtime 15:38]

This film, narrated by Walter Cronkite, takes you through the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 as if it was a news broadcast from the beginning years of Television. A wonderful way to "experience" what it might have looked like through the TV camera and perhaps what it could have been like to live through the Great Chicago Fire.

  1. Watching what the fire probably looked like makes me sick to watch. It seems to me the Kinzie family had left many artifacts behind to the Chicago History Museum, which I imagine were burned up. I always wondered if relative Archibald Clyburn's big house was destroyed also. I have only toured around Chicago once, so I don't know what area the fire covered compared to where the relatives lived. At any rate, it was terrible.
