In recent years a team led by Professor Mark Wagner of SIU Carbondale thoroughly studied the house and grounds and concluded that the third floor rooms were added later in the 19th century. The story of the slave jail was created as a marketing tool in the early days of auto tourism.Aaron Lisecnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2698674352470153088.post-88646855798139098772018-02-06T14:38:45.246-06:002018-02-06T14:38:45.246-06:00I have never heard of this and wonder why it was n...I have never heard of this and wonder why it was never taught in school as part of Illinois history?Nancy Stephensonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12620503884952390437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2698674352470153088.post-35838453195081609222018-02-05T18:58:25.621-06:002018-02-05T18:58:25.621-06:00I took a tour of this place back in the early ‘80s...I took a tour of this place back in the early ‘80s and heard a story of “Old Joe” who sired over 100 children.
