I remember thinking how hard it was going to be to remember that. I noticed that there was also a change from 'my flag' to 'the flag' in 1923-24. Very interesting article. Like most Christians, they believe that Jesus Christ died for humankind's sins, however they do not believe that he was physically resurrected after his crucifixion. They believe that he was only spiritually resurrected.Dr. Neil Gale, Ph.D.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10605531495401356831noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2698674352470153088.post-68486067984894440992023-02-24T12:39:46.538-06:002023-02-24T12:39:46.538-06:00This is fascinating. Of course there was no way the pledge could be said with arms outstretched after seeing the Nazi pledge, but I had no idea that 'hand over the heart' was accepted during WWII. I remember when "under God" was added. I was a very young girl and I remember being pleased that it was then part of our pledge. I know there have been movements to remove those two words, but I hope they remain forever. Thank you for this history of America's Pledge of Allegiance. She told us the class recited the Pldge daily except for one child who would stand outside the classroom door during the Pledge. He was unable to participate because his religion did not permit. He was a Jehova’s Witness. I guess we should not be surprised it was motivated by capitalism! The Bellamy Salute looks horrid, in retrospect, doesn't it?
