In addition to being the father of modern taxonomy, we must also acknowledge that he is the father of modern racism. I can't upload an image here, but the plaque text reads as follows: "Linnaeus also applied this system to humans, without any scientific basis. He categorized humans based on race, and assigned negative behavioral traits to Africans and other nonwhites. This system has been used to promote slavery and other racial injustices throughout history." I was impressed to see that this was added in addition to all the accolades Linnaeus rightly deserves. I cannot find that plaque anywhere on the Internet.
